Mac Microsoft Word Character Count

It seems like every time Microsoft releases a new version of Office, they move everything around! You get used to seeing one thing under one menu and then next version of Office moves that option to another menu! Grrrr. I’ve upgraded to Office 2010 and one of the most common features I use is the Character/Word Count.

I cannot click on the word count in my MS Word 2010. The option is there but it won't let me use it. It's not highlighted like the rest of the options. Any suggestions??? I need to count characters.

I still find this quite annoying since I use it so often, so I wanted a quicker way to access this same info. Luckily in Word 2010, there is an option to add the word count to the status bar at the bottom. Just right-click on the status bar and you’ll see an option for Word Count.

hi guys, i was wondering. is it possible to always show the character counter in word 2007. in the task bar at the bottom there right next to the word counter cos its a effort to always have to click on the word count to see the character counter.?

The best I can suggest is to add the count to the 'quick access toolbar' and to put that below the ribbon. Then at least it is always handy and requires only 1 click. Other than that, there seems to be no easier method, especially since 'character count' can mean different things ( with or without spaces, text boxes included or not, etc.).

Hello, All: Don't know how significant/useful my contribution may (still)be -- given the age of this thread & my only recently becoming a DIY-GEEK.

MS Word 2K7 has been a PitA, to be sure; pretty much having to re-learn everything{after spending way too long looking for 'it', &c}.

CHARACTER COUNT -- the 'quickest' way I've found to deal with this is by L-click>-ing on the WORD COUNT(which I have showing in the BOTTOM LEFT corner of the window/frame of the doc). When the dialogue box pops-up, it indicates the following 'STATISTICS': Page, Words, Characters(no spaces), Characters(with spaces), Paragraphs, Lines [& there's a box to check/uncheck for the INCLUSION of textboxes, footnotes & endnotes]. {Hey, at least there's a running WORD COUNT!}
